Massage Therapy is the manipulation of soft tissues to enhance a person’s health and well-being. Massage techniques are commonly applied with hands, fingers, elbows, forearms, knees, feet and some other devices.
Massage can make beneficial physiological changes in the body, including decreasing the production of stress hormones, lowering blood pressure, increasing available levels of seratonin, increasing blood and lymph circulation, reduces painful muscle contractions and spasms, and reduces nerve compression.
Massage Therapy can also reduce the following risks associated with STRESS: hypertension, cardiac arrhythmias, anxiety, insomnia, persistent fatigue and digestive disorders.
The technique used a Berkshire Health Clinic is a gentle method that is customizable for all ages and can be effective is treating the following conditions: migraine, sciatica, muscle aches and spasms, back, neck and shoulder pain, joint pain, discomfort and stiffness, sports injuries, tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, carpal tunnel and thoracic outlet syndrome.
Your first visit will be approximately 60 minutes. During this time, your massage therapist will take a full case history to assess your current health and any previous conditions or existing symptoms. A physical examination will take place. You will be asked to undress to your level of comfort and lay beneath sheets/towels in order for your therapist to perform the examination and treatment. Privacy is always provided and if you are uncomfortable with any area being uncovered then do tell your therapist. It will never be a problem.
The actual massage itself will include gentle pressure stretching and tapping techniques which are associated with BRT to provide some symptom relief.
Most people find that 6 to 10 sessions are sufficient to address straightforward problems. The number and frequency of treatment will depend on several factors and will be discussed with you.
Once your health improves, patients find that coming in for maintenance and wellness once a month will keep the problems that were first presented at bay.
During your course of massage care, you can expect to feel some physical changes as your body gets used to the change in muscle tension and usage. Usually, an increase in range of motion, flexibility, balance and strength can be felt. At times, some minor aches may be experienced, similar to the post-workout feeling, as muscles begin to get used to being used properly again, particularly after your first session.
You will be given advice on aftercare to help get the most out of your treatment. It is important that you talk to your therapist if you feel worried about anything during or after your treatment.
If you are experiencing cold or flu symptoms, then it will be best to rearrange your appointment in order to get the best out of your treatment when you are feeling better. Instead, a chiropractic adjustment would benefit you greatly when you have cold or flu symptoms to strengthen your immune system and help you to recover quicker. Please call the clinic the reschedule your appointments as necessary.
